IMG_8849Rosamund Pike, the beautiful English actress who recently starred in the movie “Gone Girl” probably speaks for most of us when she said:  “I look my best when I’m totally free, on holiday, walking on the beach.”  I know she speaks for me!

One of my great pleasures of summer is heading out to Cape Cod, or another coastal retreat for a weekend or a week with my husband, Toli, and my dog, Ray. We usually stay in one of the quaint towns along Rt 6A , yet lately we’ve discovered and fell in love with the Haven cottage in Truro. It became our summer Heaven away from home.

Many Kate Gray women head off to the beach for at least one week in the summer and before leaving, they stop into the shop to make a couple of purchases. Amy, a new KG customer, came in 2 weeks ago and asked for my advice about what to pack for a week in Provincetown. My response? “As little as possible!”

Beach life should be simple, relaxing, fuss-free. Sun and salt air are going to make feel terrific and look your best. I suggested to Amy that she take one dress, few skirts and tops, a couple of colorful cotton scarves to wrap around her shoulders on the beach, and to dress up whatever she wears for a nice dinner at a local restaurant. The beach is the place to wear color; leave any pieces of black clothing at home! White and blush pink are this summer’s favorite colors – and they look fabulous against tanned skin. At the store, we have a colorful collection of crushed cotton tees that pair well with pair of shorts or white denim. Don’t bother taking long pants, instead, come to the store and let’s pick out a playful skirt – we have several hi-low styles to flatter both tall and petite women –  a couple of long tank tops and a blouse that flows around your body and moves in the breeze.  Add a pair of sparkly earrings, a beads necklace; beach style should be about adding accessories to add pop to a wardrobe of basics. A couple of bathing suits, and a big hat – you’re ready to go girl!

Don’t forget to bring a couple of good beach books. If you have not read Gone Girl, I recommend it for hours of entertainment under those blue skies all lit up in yellow summer sun!
